The Help Movie Coming in August

the help

"The Help", a novel by Kathryn Stockett, has been made into a movie and I am beyond excited for it's release. The book tells of the awakening of civil rights and how it affected the relationships between families and the African American "help" they hired. I was born and raised in the South so the story is familiar. My grandmother told of the competition for the best African American nannies. There was one in particular that everyone fought over. The civil rights stuggle is often glossed over when talking about "the help." The reality of the humiliation, pain and suffering that so many experienced is hard. Stockett's novel does an amazing job of representing the different relationships that developed and the complications that even the best of those relationships faced.

Dreamworks Studios just shared a new featurette about the movie and I wanted to share it with you.

The movie opens on August 12th  (you'll find me at the movie theater!)
